Our story, our mission
Discover the heart behind South Georgia Transitional Living Center. Learn what inspired us, what future we envision, and how we empower young adults to build independent, fulfilling lives.

Why we started south georgia transitional living center
As an educator and behavior therapist, I’ve spent years working closely with young people—supporting them academically, emotionally, and behaviorally. Through this work, I’ve seen how much progress young adults can make when they have structure, guidance, and someone who believes in them. I’ve also seen what happens when that support disappears too soon.
While working with youth and studying human behavior, trauma, and social systems, it became clear that young adults aging out of foster care face a major gap in services. Many are expected to transition into adulthood overnight, without stable housing, family support, or life‑skills training. In Valdosta and the surrounding South Georgia area, there was no transitional living home designed specifically to meet this need.
This program was created to fill that gap. South Georgia Transitional Living Center is built on the belief that young adults don’t fail because they lack ability—they struggle because they lack opportunity.

Our vision for the future
We envision a future where young adults leave our program stable, confident, and prepared to live independently—not just housed for the moment, but equipped for long‑term success.
For the young adults we serve, success looks like: having stable employment or education underway, being able to manage money, save, and plan ahead, living in safe, permanent housing they can maintain, having the life skills and emotional stability to handle challenges, and believing in themselves and their ability to build a better future.
We want young adults to leave our program knowing they are capable, deserving, and no longer alone as they step into adulthood. For the community, our vision is just as important. When young adults are supported early: homelessness decreases, unemployment is reduced, cycles of crisis and instability are interrupted, and communities become stronger, safer, and more connected. By providing housing, structure, and guidance at a critical transition point, South Georgia Transitional Living Center makes a lasting impact.

How we empower independence
At South Georgia Transitional Living Center, we work alongside young adults—not over them—to help them build real independence step by step.
Our approach is structured, supportive, and individualized. Each young adult receives regular one‑on‑one case management, where we focus on goal setting, problem‑solving, and building practical skills needed for adult life. We help residents work toward employment or education goals, learn money management and life skills, and prepare for permanent housing—all within a safe, stable living environment.
What makes our program different is that we don’t expect young adults to “figure it out” on their own. Independence isn’t rushed—it’s taught, practiced, and supported over time. Residents live in a structured home with clear expectations, consistent guidance, and accountability, while also receiving the encouragement and support needed to grow confidently. Our program is intentionally small, allowing us to provide personalized attention and foster a strong sense of community.
"The South Georgia Transitional Living Center isn't just a place to stay; it's a launchpad to a brighter future. Their dedication to genuine independence is truly inspiring."
